The EU Council endorsed the decision of the new Kyrgyz authorities to hold elections in the country
Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union endorsed the interim government of Kyrgyzstan to hold parliamentary elections in October.
“The EU Council welcomed the promise of an interim government to work on constitutional reform and as soon as possible to create all necessary conditions for holding democratic elections,” – said in a ministerial statement, which cites the “Deutsche Welle” .
EU Council also stressed the need for speedy restoration of democratic order in the country and called on the interim Government to respect human rights and the rule of law.
Earlier, the new authorities of Kyrgyzstan said that on June 27 in the country held a national referendum in which residents will decide the fate of the new Constitution. The holding of parliamentary elections scheduled for October 10, 2010.
